This gadget is a brilliant design which is fit for the purpose it was made. It basically delivers what it promises to achieve. However there are some facts you need to know about this kit:
The User Manual is the weakest part of this product along with the Car Charger! The User Manual is not only insufficient but also it is misleading! For example; the term “Motion Detection” which is abbreviated as “MD” in the setup Mode, needs to be clarified as to what it does! The levels are defined from 1 to 8 without any explanation! Be careful with this one as when you turn it on, it will directly affect how the camera would behave in capturing frames and storing movies!
The car charger is made of cheap plastic and low quality electronics components inside! The weakest part of it is not the smallest possible 100uF electrolyte capacitor on the 5 Volts output but is the Mini USB male plug! It suffers from a slight shrinkage of the size apparently when it was moulded so it wouldn’t be a tight fit in the GPS/ Mount female socket and it can cause problems! The other fact to know about the car charger is that they have cleverly used the unused 5th pin of the standard mini USB configuration to power up the GPS/ Mount and through to the camera when it is attached to the mount. It works perfectly well but don’t mistake it with a normal Mini USB as it won’t power up your device when you connect it to the car charger socket!
The other annoying part is the Software side! I would recommend using the “Registrator Viewer” which can be downloaded for free of the internet. If you use it under windows XP, make sure to also download the latest Video Codecs otherwise it won’t display your movies!
All in all this is a clever design and once you’ve got it fixed and made yourself familiarize with the perks and peculiar translations from Chinese to English, it would work and delivers what it says on the tin. I bought this instead of one much more expensive which appeared to me to be the same spec and apart from the menu language which is Russian this proved to be correct. Once I found the Russian word for language and changed it to English I have been delighted with the product and I highly recommend it rather than buying what appears to be the same product with the language pre set to English for about £40 more.
